Turek leads McMaster Marauders to first U SPORTS Men’s Cross-Country title since 1963
Halifax, N.S. (U SPORTS) – UBC runner Glynis Sim is the top finisher of the 2022 U SPORTS women’s cross-country championship, finishing the eight-kilometre course in a time of 28:19, followed by Laval’s Jessy Lacourse (28:31) and fellow Thunderbird Kiana Gibson (28:54).
With five runners in the top 15, the University of Laval Rouge et Or captured their third national championship title in the last four years, beating out second-place UBC by one point to win.
“It was a really exciting championship despite the weather, and we had some great performances,” said Laval Rouge et Or head coach Félix-Antoine Lapointe. “It was a really close battle between us and UBC. I’m really proud of this win, and it was great to see Jessy finish her career with a medal.”
Laval Rouge et Or finished with 49 points, followed by UBC Thunderbirds in second with 50 points and Guelph Gryphons in third with 93 points.

Student-Athlete Community Service Award:
Hannah Woodhouse, University of Guelph
Guelph Gryphon Hannah Woodhouse has earned the 2022 U SPORTS Student-Athlete Community Service Award for her exemplary combination of leadership, athletic performance, academic excellence, and volunteer work.
The Clarksburg, Ont. native has served on multiple university executive committees to contribute to the student body and community. After being elected as a member of the University Senate, Woodhouse currently serves on the Board of Graduate Studies Committee, wherein she attends monthly meetings, reviews agenda items weekly, and provides input to pass motions that are in the best interest of the graduating student body.
Woodhouse, a senior student-athlete who has been awarded multiple academic scholarships, is also a volunteer executive member of the MealCare program at the university, which is an organization focused on reducing community food waste and food insecurity. She attends bi-weekly meetings, picks up restaurant food donations, and volunteers in the university kitchens to package unused food sent to the Mission.
Her additional community involvements include lifeguarding five hours a week, volunteering with local 4-H agricultural clubs and local agricultural societies, and serving as an undergraduate and graduate epidemiology teaching assistant.
