CHARLOTTETOWN (U SPORTS) – Concordia’s Rosalie Bégin-Cyr recorded a hat trick as the top-seeded Stingers shut out the UPEI Panthers 7-0 to advance to the 2022 Cavendish Farms U SPORTS Championship semifinals in Charlottetown, Friday.

Bégin-Cyr got the scoring going in the first period when Stéphanie Lemelin sent a cross-ice pass to the forward, who fired it off the crossbar and in for the power play marker. Bégin-Cyr added another goal 47 seconds into the third period before scoring again at 9:58 of the final frame.

Teammates Brigitte Laganière, Stephanie Lalancette, Maria Manarolis and Audrey Belzile also scored in the win, while Emmy Fecteau led the way with two assists.

Laganière put away the game’s second goal on a redirect 14:37 into the second period. About a minute later, Lalancette beat goaltender Camille Scherger on a breakaway to make it 3-0 after 40 minutes. The Stingers added four more in the final period to close out a dominant 7-0 win.

Concordia netminder Alice Philbert faced just 14 shots in a shutout, while Scherger made 25 saves on 32 shots.

With the win, the Stingers advance to the semifinals where they will play the Saskatchewan Huskies Saturday night at 7 p.m. (Atlantic Time). The Panthers will take on the Badgers in the consolation at 1 p.m. (Atlantic).
