Women's hockey player of the week: Emma Wedgewood, York

Emma Wedgewood stopped 47 of the 50 shots she faced on Friday in a 3-2 overtime loss this past Saturday against then-No. 3-ranked Nipissing Lakers in North Bay. Wedgewood continued her weekend on Sunday stopping 35 of 36 shots leading the Lions to an upset win in their rematch against the Lakers back in Toronto. Wedgewood saved 82 of 86 shots this weekend making a save percentage of .953.

Wedgewood will lead the York Lions to Kingston this weekend to play the Queen's Golden Gaels in a crucial set of games.

Men's hockey player of the week: Holden Wale, Windsor

  • Year of Eligibility: 3
  • Academic Program: Liberal Studies

Holden Wale’s overtime heroics helped the Windsor Lancers take home two wins this weekend against TMU and Toronto. In Friday’s 5-4 win against TMU, Wales collected an assist in the second period and not long after secured a goal to hold a 2-1 lead. In overtime, Wales led his team to victory by scoring the game-winning goal. The junior didn’t stop there, as in Saturday’s game against the Varsity Blues, Wales scored a second OT winner to give the Lancers a 3-2 win.

The Windsor men’s hockey team is back in action this weekend in Waterloo to take on the Waterloo Warriors on Friday and the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday.
