Offensive Player of the Week: Édouard Arsenault, Laval

Édouard Arsenault caught the game-winning touchdown in 2nd overtime period as Laval escaped their RSEQ semifinal with a 34-27 win over Concordia. The third-year receiver scored twice on his six catches, totalling 143 yards overall. His first major came in the fourth quarter, putting Laval up 24-10 with less than 10 minutes to go. After Concordia forced overtime, and the teams traded field goals in the first overtime, Arsenault’s 10-yard catch put the Stingers behind the eight-ball in the second OT. With the win, Laval will renew the longtime Quebec City-Montreal rivalry in the Dunsmore Cup final on Saturday.

Defensive Player of the Week: Mathieu Déry, Bishop’s

Mathieu Déry was a game-changer in Bishop’s 34-15 semi-final victory over Mount Allison on Saturday afternoon in Lennoxville. In the third quarter, Déry made a 34-yard interception return – the second pick six by the Gaiters in less than a minute – to give the Gaiters a 21-15 lead. The first-year defensive back also made three tackles (one solo and four assist) and helped the Gaiters defence keep the Mounties scoreless through the entire second half. His performance helped advance Bishop’s to the Loney Bowl on Saturday, where they will play STFX for a spot in the Mitchell Bowl.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Daniel Kubongo, Western
- Position: Kick Returner
- Hometown: Calgary, Alta.
- Year of eligibility: 1
- Program: King’s College
Daniel Kubongo was a key player in Western’s 47-20 victory against Queen’s last Saturday in an OUA semifinal. The first-year kick returner ran a kickoff back 97 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter, ending the momentum Queen’s had gained from an 86-yard pick six on the previous play.
He returned two kickoffs on the day, for 117 yards, and also had three three punt returns for 20 yards. Kubongo’s efforts helped the Mustangs clinch a berth in the Yates Cup this Saturday, where they will play Laurier with a spot in the Uteck Bowl on the line.
