Championships Women’s Volleyball

Thanks to its host status, the Rouge et Or women’s volleyball team will take part in the national competition for the 36th time in the event’s 47-year history. The U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship, presented by the Hôtel Universel Québec will take place in just over a month at Laval’s sports pavilion (PEPS), from Mar. 16-18, 2018.

This is the seventh time that Université Laval has been chosen to host the cream of the crop of varsity women’s volleyball. The last time Laval hosted the event was in 2011, when the Rouge et Or clinched the silver medal, losing in the final against the UBC Thunderbirds.

Since taking over the team at the beginning of the 2013-2014 season, Rouge et Or head coach Olivier Caron has guided his troops to two national tournaments, with Laval winning the bronze medal in his first campaign as coach. The following year, the squad came in seventh place, and then a two-year hiatus without qualification followed.

A First at the Desjardins-Université Laval Amphitheatre

This is the first time that a national volleyball championship will be held at the “new” Rouge et Or venue, inaugurated in 2013. A place that is the envy of many, according to Olivier Caron: “It's certainly one of the most beautiful venues in Canada, and I've seen almost all of them,” he said, drawing attention to the large playing area and the amphitheatre effect, which makes student-athletes truly feel energy of the crowd.

Student Promo

An exclusive promo for Université Laval students will be available for the Rouge et Or’s first game in this championship, which will take place on Friday, March 16 at 6pm. With the purchase of a $10 ticket in the student section specially created for the occasion, Université Laval students will get a free drink, a Rouge et Or promotional item, and the chance to enter a contest to win a  $250 Coors Light fridge, courtesy of Molson.
