Track and Field

It's conference championship weekend across the country, with the best runners, jumpers, and throwers competing  Friday and Saturday, looking to qualify for the U SPORTS championships in Edmonton in two weeks.

Out east, the Dalhousie men and women will look to extend their impressive conference championship win streaks— the men are looking for their 18th title in 19 years, while the women are hoping to extend their AUS win streak that dates back to 1989-90. Andrew Peverill, on the individual side, will be one athlete to watch for. The Saint Mary's distance runner ranks first in the 300m and 1500m in the conference, and second in the 100m.

In the RSEQ, Jean-Simon Desganés will attempt to lead the No. 4 Laval men to a conference title. Desgangés recently ran a 7:53.21 time in the 3,000 time over the weekend in Boston. It will be a trio of schools on the women’s side competing for the team title, with No. 7 Laval, No. 10 Sherbrooke and unranked Montreal competing for the conference championship. Jessy Lacourse and her Laval teammate Catherine Beauchemin are expected to be neck and neck in the women's 300m.

The No.1-ranked Guelph men and women are expecting to repeat as champions in the OUA, bolstered by depth across various distances on the track. The Guelph women have three individual athletes with top times in the country (Shyvonne Roxborough, 60m. Zoe Sherar, 300m. Jenna Smith, 600m.) in their respective events, and currently own the best 4x200m and 4x400m relay marks in Canada.

Finally, Calgary and Saskatchewan are expected to duel it out for the team titles in Saskatoon this weekend as Saskatchewan hosts the CW Championships The Dinos men, coming off their second U SPORTS cross country team title, are led by Russell Pennock, Eric Lutz, Matthew Travaglini, and a strong short distance crew.
