Championships Women’s Volleyball

CALGARY – Kory White had a game-high 22 kills to lead the University of Alberta Pandas to a 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 25-15) win over the Dalhousie Tigers in their quarter-final game at the U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship on Friday from the Jack Simpson Gym.

After a back-and-forth start to the match and a 1-1 tie after two sets, the Pandas offence found its rhythm and never looked back, hitting .382 in the third and .414 in the fourth to secure the win and a berth to the national semifinals.

Julia Zonnevald recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 17 digs and teammate Justine Kolody dished out 51 assists in the win for the Pandas. Julie Moore led the way for Dalhouise with 20 kills, 12 digs and three blocks, while Brett Bolden finished with 28 assists and a game-high 21 digs in the loss.

Alberta, the 2022 Canada West silver medallists, finished the match with a .307 overall hitting percentage, while Dalhousie was limited to just .140.

With the win, Alberta advances to play a familiar foe in Canada West rival Mount Royal Saturday at 6 p.m. in the semifinals, while Dalhousie will now take on the Brock Badgers in Saturday’s consolation opener at 1 p.m.
