HAMILTON (U SPORTS) – A fifth-year outside hitter, Mitchell Neuert was dominant at the net, putting down 24 kills in Toronto’s 3-1 (28-26, 23-25, 25-17, 25-12) victory over the Windsor Lancers in the first consolation semifinal on Day 2 of the 2023 U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship presented by Mikasa in Burridge Gymnasium.

Toronto claimed the match’s opening set but needed extra points to do so, taking Set #1 28-26. Windsor evened things up with a 25-23 victory in the second, but from there, it was all Varsity Blues. The No. 8 seed earned wins in the final two sets to pick up the victory.

Evan Falardeau, the 2023 OUA Player of the Year and a U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian, was the other Varsity Blue with double-digit kills, recording 16 on 38 total attacks.

Second-year setter, Davis Young, totalled 47 assists and nine digs to lead the Varsity Blues and secure the win. Daniel Tudor racked up 14 digs for Toronto.

Zach Albert, an outside hitter for Windsor, recorded 10 kills and six digs in the loss.

The win sends Toronto to the consolation final on Sunday, March 19th at 1 p.m. ET where they will face the winner of the Saskatchewan - Montréal match. The loss knocks the Lancers out of this year’s U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship.
