McMaster’s Serena Di Benedetto and Western’s Treye Trotman are the U SPORTS wrestling athletes of the week for the period ending February 12, 2023.


Serena Di Benedetto, McMaster University

Academic program: Humanities

Serena Di Benedetto dominated the women’s 53-kilogram weight class at the OUA championship this past Saturday. Di Benedetto entered the weekend undefeated after picking up four gold medals throughout the season. The rookie won both the preliminary bouts against Western and Queen’s to get to the gold medal match. The first-year humanities student went on to defeat the Brock Badgers for the OUA gold medal. Di Benedetto earned female wrestler of the year and female rookie of the year and helped lead McMaster’s women’s wrestling team to second place in the team standings.

Hometown: London, Ont.
Year of eligibility: 1st
Academic program: King’s College

Treye Trotman dominated the men’s 57-kilogram weight class at the OUA championship this past weekend. Going into the tournament, Trotman had an undefeated record and was ranked number two. Trotman won the two qualification matches by pin and dominated in the finals, winning 11-0. The King’s College student was also named the OUA male rookie of the year and won the Keegan Trophy as the top male wrestler in the OUA.
