1. How did you first get involved in coaching? What was your path to your position as head coach of the Saskatchewan Huskies?

I knew early on as a player that I wanted to get into coaching.  Football is a passion of mine and I love being involved in the game and now being able to teach the game and so much more to student-athletes is very rewarding.  After retiring from the CFL, former long-time coach Brian Towriss contacted me and offered me an opportunity to return to the U of S and I jumped at it.  After he stepped down, I was hired to become the head coach in March of 2017.

2. Who are the people that have influenced you most as a coach?

First and foremost is my former head coach, colleague and mentor Brian Towriss.  Also I was fortunate to play under many outstanding coaches professionally, specifically Don Matthews and Marc Trestman.

3. How would you describe your coaching style?

I think I’m very receptive to what the players are experiencing and yet demanding in how we go about our business.  So a tough player-friendly coach.

4. Which coach do you admire the most, and why?

Brian Towriss because of his ability to grow the program and keep it elite for so many years.  That is very hard to do.

5. What is the most “out-of-the-box” thing you’ve done as a coach?

Cancelled a practice in training camp to take the team paint-balling.  They needed a break and it was a great team builder for our players.

6. What is your greatest coaching moment or achievement?

First win as a head coach in our first game.

7. What’s the best advice you can give to an athlete and/or athlete’s parents?

Love the game and ask a lot of questions.

8. How have you changed as a coach over time? What principles/values, etc. have remained the same?

My core values are to be a great teammate, compete daily and have a great work ethic.  Those will never change.

9. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not in coaching mode?

Being a husband to an amazing wife and a father to three awesome kids.  I also really enjoy watching them compete in sports too.

10. What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you as a coach?

Nothing yet but I’m sure I’ll have some soon!
