The Ottawa Gee-Gees open the season as the top-ranked women’s rugby program in the country.
The Gee-Gees, who became the first RSEQ school to capture the Monilex Trophy last fall over Laval, backed up their top ranking on Monday by doubling up the Rouge et Or 24-12 in a national championship rematch. Ottawa will look to maintain their first pole position in nearly three years (Oct.6, 2015) when they visit Sherbrooke on Sunday.
In other U SPORTS rankings, Cape Breton (men’s soccer) and Montreal (women’s soccer) remain national leaders for another week.
New this season, U SPORTS is implementing the ELO Rating System for the calculation of its weekly national rankings. Powered by RankR, ELO’s unique algorithm blends a statistical calculation with customized variables that is adaptable across a range of sports. For more information, click here.
