U SPORTS sits down with each of its interns last semester in our interview series “Getting to know…”

1. What attracted you to Humber and your program? 

I have a huge passion for sports, both playing and being a fan.

2. Why were you interested in interning at U SPORTS? 

I was interested in U SPORTS because I know how important university sport is in the Canadian sports landscape. I also thought I would learn a lot by working at an organization like U SPORTS.

3. What are your key learnings from your experience at U SPORTS? 

I have learned a lot about working in a professional environment, as well as about inventory management, supply chain, and other things that go into what U SPORTS does.

4. Any memorable moments over the course of your internship?

There are lots of memories that I will take with me from my time there. These include the Leadership Breakfast sessions which featured interesting speakers from the sports industry, as well as internal events like our staff football game, and murder mystery game on Halloween.

5. What is one piece of advice you can give to someone interested in joining U SPORTS? 

I would advise someone that is interested in joining U SPORTS to work hard and do as much as you can with your time here. It’s a great opportunity to learn, make connections, and further your career.

6. Why did you choose to pursue a career in sports and what is your dream job?

I chose to pursue a career in sports because I have a huge passion for sports and the sports industry. My dream job is to work for the Toronto Maple Leafs, or somewhere within Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.

7. If you could sit down with one person in the sports industry (athlete, coach, manager or professional), who would it be? Why? What would you talk about?

I would like to sit down Mark Cuban. I think he has a lot of knowledge, not just in sports, but in business in general and I would be able to learn a lot from him.

8. After joining U SPORTS and gaining a better understanding of what we do, how would you describe the organization and the culture at the national office?

Very professional, but at the same time casual.

9. What do you enjoy doing when you’re away from your internship and school?

Playing hockey, biking, traveling, listening to music, playing video games, being with friends.

10. What is your most memorable sports moment?

Too many to choose from.

The objective of the U SPORTS Internship program is to provide students currently enrolled in collegiate / university programs with concrete experience of what it is like to work in the Canadian sport industry.
