U SPORTS News

With the puck dropped on the 2020-21 season, four NHL broadcasters reflect on how covering and being involved in U SPORTS athletics helped launch their professional careers.

Montreal Canadiens voices Dan Robertson (TSN 690 / AUS on Eastlink TV) and Dany Dubé (98.5 FM / UQTR coach), Toronto Maple Leafs play-by-play caller Joe Bowen (Sportsnet 590 The Fan & TSN 1050 / CJAM, University of Windsor), and Hockey Night in Canada’s Harnarayan Singh (Sportsnet / CMRU, Mount Royal University) discuss getting their start calling Canadian university sports in Canada West, the OUA and AUS respectively, the experiences and life lessons taken from their time on campus and their advice for young broadcasters.

Singh’s debut memoir One Game at a Time: My Journey from Small Town Alberta to Hockey’s Biggest Stage, is out now. The story highlights the inspiring rise of the first Sikh-Canadian broadcaster to cover and call an NHL game in English, and his leading role in breaking down societal barriers through HNIC's popular Punjabi edition.
