KINGSTON, Ont.  – One week after going to overtime in the OUA Critelli Cup final, the Rams and Brock Badgers went to overtime again, with the tournament favourites pulling out a 64-56 (OT) win in the semifinals to advance to the Gold Medal Game at the U SPORTS Women’s Final 8.

Jama Bin-Edward led the Rams with 17 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds in the win. Mikaela Dodig and Kyia Giles also scored in double digits for the Rams, finishing with 14 and 12 points respectively.

“This game, I think you could see that our defence ramped up so we were able to limit a lot of their scoring attempts,” said Bin-Edward, who was named the Rams Player of the Game. “We knew that Brock is a good team and we were going to go back and forth and they were obviously able to go on a run in the end of the fourth. We just recollected in overtime and we got stops. We pride ourselves on our defence and I think that we did a good job stopping the ball in overtime and creating our own shots.”

The Rams held a five-point lead heading into the final quarter before the Badgers tied the score and sent the game to overtime, but the Rams outscored Brock 10-2 in the extra quarter for the eight-point win.

“Obviously we saw them just a week ago and there were times where we were closing out and we were a little bit flat and we let them get comfortable so I thought our length and our active hands disrupted them a little bit more.

Madalyn Weinert and Victoria Lawrence both scored 14 points to lead the Badgers’ offence. Weinert also pulled down 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

“We all played really hard the first two quarters,” said Lawrence, who was named Brock’s Player of the Game. “I was just our defence lacked a little bit and we weren’t really rebounding as much as we could. But eventually the fourth quarter we really wanted it, so we were going really hard rebounding. But it was just those last-minute shots just got us.”

The Rams shot 30.7 per cent from the floor and 28.9 per cent from three-point range, while the Badgers shot 37.3 per cent from the floor and 31.3 per cent from three-point range.

With the win, the Rams advance to the gold medal game on Sunday at 6 p.m., where they will take on the winner of the second semifinal between the Winnipeg Wesmen and the Queen’s Gaels. The Badgers will face the loser of that game in the bronze medal game Sunday at 3 p.m.
