SYDNEY, N.S. (U SPORTS) – Dorcas Buisa scored a game-high 20 points to lead the top-seeded Carleton Ravens to a 56-51 win over the No. 8-seeded Cape Breton Capers in the fourth quarterfinal of the 2023 Protocase Women’s Final 8, presented by Bell, at the Sullivan Field House in Sydney, Thursday. Buisa also tallied 11 rebounds and had a steal to help knock off the host Capers.

The Capers led 14-11 after the first quarter but trailed 30-29 at halftime, as the momentum started to move in favour of the Ravens, who outscored Cape Breton 19-15 in the second quarter. Carleton started to roll in the third quarter as they held CBU to only four points in the period, taking a 44-33 lead. A key factor for the Ravens was their 22 points off Cape Breton turnovers.

Teresa Donato was the player of the game for the Ravens, as she came off the bench to score 13 points and added 6 rebounds. The Ottawa product also added two assists and two steals to her stat line. Kali Pocrnic was also a factor for the Ravens, with 15 points, four assists, and four rebounds. Buisa, for her part, finished with a double-double as she added 11 rebounds to her 20 points.

Kiyara Letlow of the Capers had a big night on the glass with 19 rebounds. She also contributed nine points and was named player of the game for Cape Breton. Darah Fleurgin came off the bench for the Capers and had an impact with nine points, six rebounds, and three assists.

With the win, the Ravens advance to Saturday’s semi-final, where they will play the Saint Mary’s Huskies at 6 p.m. (all times Atlantic). Cape Breton will play Calgary in a consolation game on Friday at 8 p.m.
