Women’s Basketball Player of the Week: MacKeely Shantz, Western

  • Position: Guard
  • Hometown: Plattsville, Ont.
  • Year of eligibility: 4th
  • Academic program: Physical Therapy

MacKeely Shantz broke out to score 59 points over the Mustangs’ two games last weekend. On Friday, she scored a game-high 32 point and added eight rebounds and four steals in a 60-55 loss against Laurier. The next day, in a 70-64 win over Waterloo she dropped in 27 points as she went 9-for-18 from the field and made all six of her free throws. She also collected a team-high seven rebounds.

The Mustangs return to action this weekend as they host Toronto on Friday and Toronto Metropolitan on Saturday.

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week: Martynas Sabaliauskas, Calgary

  • Hometown: Vilnius, Lithuania
  • Year of eligibility: 2nd
  • Academic program: Businesss

Martynas Sabaliauskas led the Dinos to a sweep of local rivals Mount Royal last weekend, notching a pair of double-doubles in the process. In Friday’s 88-82 win over the Cougars, he dropped in 21 points and 10 rebounds. On Friday, he exploded for 36 points, including going 8-for-11 from beyond the three-point line and 10 rebounds in the Dinos’ 119-103 win.

The Dinos are back in action this week as they host Thompson Rivers on Friday and Saturday.
