The U SPORTS Soccer and Cross Country Championships take centre stage this weekend, with the Ottawa Gee-Gees hosting women’s soccer in the nation’s capital, the UBC Thunderbirds welcoming the top men’s soccer teams to Vancouver and the Queen’s Gaels playing host to the best runners in Canada at Fort Henry Hill in Kingston Ont.

The soccer tournaments run until Sunday’s championship matches at 3:00 pm ET / 12:00 pm PT for the women and 5:00 p.m. ET / 2:00 p.m. PT for the men. The cross country races will be held Saturday at 12:00 p.m. ET / 9:00 a.m. PT for the women and 1:00 p.m. ET / 10:00 a.m. PT for the men.

Wrestling

Rams to host wrestling open for OUA athletes

The Ryerson Rams host the Ryerson Open on Sunday at Kerr Hall Gymnasium. Open to all OUA athletes, a strong showing should be expected from the Brock Badgers, ranked No.5 on the men’s side and No.4 in women’s competition to start the year. The Badgers won last year’s Ryerson Open, as well as the OUA and U SPORTS championships.

Swimming

Gee-Gees hosting third RSEQ meet of the season

The Ottawa Gee Gees will host the third RSEQ meet of the season this weekend. Last time out at McGill on Oct. 27, Ottawa’s Davide Casarin took home four medals – two golds and two silver – while Montana Champagne took home a bronze for the men. On the women’s side Delphine Vandal took home a silver. The meet starts Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET / 10:00 a.m. PT.

Brock Badgers visit Laurentian and Nipissing this weekend

The Brock Badgers head north for a two-game trip to Laurentian and Nipissing. The Voyageurs are 2-0 to begin the season with wins against Nipissing and Lakehead, led by last season’s U SPORTS BLG Male Athlete of the Year Kadre Gray, who is averaging 40 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists to start the season. Brock is coming off a six-point loss to McMaster and is hoping to bounce back on the road for the first time this season. The last time these two teams met was Nov. 17 of last year, where the Badgers won 71-55. Both games tip off at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT on OUA.TV.

No. 5 Huskies travel west to face the No. 9 Dinos

The No.5 Saskatchewan Huskies visit the No. 9 Calgary Dinos this weekend for a two-game series. The Huskies are coming off a series sweep against the Fraser Valley Cascades in their home opener, improving their record to 3-1, while the Dinos also won both games last weekend and are now 2-2. Catch the first game Friday at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT and the second game on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. ET / 4:00 p.m. PT on CanadaWest.TV

No. 1 Reds face off against AUS rival X-Men

The top ranked UNB Reds will be hosting the No. 6 StFX X-Men on Friday. The Reds are coming off of a 7-1 win against the UPEI panthers where a power outage suspended the game with nine minutes left to play. Tyler Boland scored the seventh goal of the game, for his 13th point of the season - tied for fifth in the nation. No. 5 X-Women host UPEI and No.8 Saint Mary’s

The No. 5 StFX X-Women welcome the UPEI Panthers Friday and the No. 8 Saint Mary’s Huskies on Sunday. The X-Women are coming off a 5-0 shutout win against the Mount Allison Mounties, while the Panthers beat the Moncton Aigles Bleues 3-0. The Huskies are coming off a 2-0 loss against the St. Thomas Tommies. Puck drop Friday is at 6:00 p.m. ET / 3:00 p.m. PT and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET / 10:00 a.m. PT
