Men’s Basketball News

The UQAM Citadins concluded their tournament with a superb victory over the Victoria Vikes in the consolation final Sunday afternoon at the 2024 GreenShield U SPORT Final 8 Men’s Basketball Championship, presented by Michelob Ultra at the Laval University PEPS in Quebec City.

The RSEQ champions defeated the Canada West Conference champions 80-70, to repeat last year’s performance at the national championships.

The Citadins’ opening quarter did not point in the direction of a happy finish, down by eight after the first 10 minutes of play. The winds changed in the second when the Montreal-based team dominated Victoria with a series of successful offensive runs. This domination allowed the RSEQ champions to close the gap and even take a four-point lead before the halftime break.

The Citadins even increased that lead to 14 points in the third quarter. The Vikes attempted a comeback in the final period, but their efforts ended up being too little, too late.

This Citadins victory was marked by an amazing performance by Eli Karojo who scored 21 points and added 11 rebounds. Quincy Louis-Jeune also shined with his output of 17 points.

In a losing cause, Diego Maffia led his troop with 24 points. Elias Ralph also contributed for the Vikes with 15 points and seven rebounds.
