Matthew Beaudet, McGill

From the Montreal borough of NDG, Matthew Beaudet won gold and led the McGill Redbirds to a first-place finish in the men's division of the Capital Classic cross-country meet on Saturday, earning U SPORTS cross-country athlete of the week honours.
 
Beaudet, a 22-year-old electrical engineering junior, finished first of 96 runners to collect his third career gold medal performance at the university level. The 5-foot-9 runner completed the six-kilometre course in a time of 18:37.07, a full seven seconds ahead of the next competitor. The 2021 U SPORTS rookie-of-the-year helped McGill win the men’s team title by one point over Queen’s.


Noémie Beauregard, Ottawa

Noémie Beauregard of the Ottawa Gee-Gees was the top U SPORTS runner at the Capital Cross-Country Challenge at Mooney’s Bay Park in Ottawa last weekend. With an average pace of 3:45.6, Beauregard finished the six-kilometre race in a time of 22:33.23, four seconds ahead of Manon Plouvier of Queen’s.

Beauregard’s performance helped the Garnet and Grey finish third overall in the women’s standings and earned the runner a U SPORTS women’s cross-country athlete of the week award.
