RICHMOND HILL, Ont. – U SPORTS today announced the matchup and game times for the 2023 U SPORTS Field Hockey Championship. The best-of-three series will see the Victoria Vikes, champions of the Canada West conference, visit the OUA champion Toronto Varsity Blues.

The series, to be played on the Back Campus Fields at the main (St. George) U of T campus, gets underway with Game 1 on Friday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. (all times Eastern) Game 2 is set for Saturday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. Game 3, if necessary, will be held on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m.

UVic is seeking their fifth straight championship, and their 16th overall title. They won Canada West with 17 points on a 4-1-3 record, including two shootout wins. Toronto is seeking their 12th national banner, but their first since 2010. They went 8-2 in the regular season and won the OUA thanks to a 0-0 (4-1) shootout victory over York in Saturday’s conference final.

The final is a rematch of the 2021 championship series in Toronto, which went the distance. All three games were decided on penalty strokes, with Victoria emerging victorious by winning the Game 3 shootout 3-1 after a 2-2 draw. Toronto had won the first game 1-1 (3-2) but Victoria forced the decider with a 1-1 (3-0) win in Game 2.

Victoria won the 2022 championship on home turf as they swept York in two games.

Since the best-of-three format was adopted in 2017, Canada West has won all five championship series. The last title for the OUA came in 2010, when Toronto took the banner after a five-team round-robin tournament.

Tickets for the series will go on sale tomorrow, check varsityblues.ca for more information.

The entire series will be streamed on CBC Gem (English).
