StFX running back Malcolm Bussey, StFX defensive back Brandyn Martin and Laval returner Mathieu Robitaille are the U SPORTS Football Players of the Week, for the period ending Nov. 7, 2021.

Offensive Player of the Week: Malcolm Bussey, StFX X-Men

A first-year arts student from Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia, Bussey was named crucial in the X-Men’s 13-7 win over Acadia on Saturday, closing out their regular season with a 6-0 record.

The running back had 34 carries for 215 yards, averaging 6.3 yards/rush, including a long of 25 yards. He currently leads the conference in rushing with 110 yards/game, averaging 6.2 yards/rush with 666 total rushing yards in the regular season.

Defensive Player of the Week: Brandyn Martin, defensive back, StFX

A human kinetics student from Melfort, Saskatchewan, Martin led the X-Men in tackling in Saturday’s 13-7 win over the Acadia Axemen. The defensive back had 11 tackles in the game—all of which were solo tackles—including three tackles for a loss of yards and two sacks for a loss of seven yards.

Martin finishes the AUS regular season with 21.5 total tackles, including 19 solo tackles.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Mathieau Robitaille, Laval Rouge et Or

Mathieu Robitaille completely turned the game on its side at the end of the second quarter on Saturday in the Rouge et Or 30-10 victory over the Concordia Stingers. 

With the Rouge et Or trailing 10-6 with less than two minutes to go in the first half, Robitaille pulled off a spectacular 48-yard punt return. The return allowed the Rouge et Or excellent field position, leading to a touchdown with just a second to go at the half. After returning the kick, the Rouge et Or scored the last 24 points of the game.
