Black History Month represents an opportunity for U SPORTS to hear from those in our ecosystem that has not been available in the past – by celebrating the success stories of the Black community, using our national platform to examine the issues and barriers the BIPOC community faces and highlight the advocacy work being accomplished by U SPORTS members.

Danika has a lot to be thankful for as a Black athlete in the sport of hockey.
Even though hockey is typically seen as a white person’s sport, I excelled from an early age and it was the one thing that gave me a sense of belonging. Although, like most Black players, I always had thoughts about what it would be like to have a Black teammate, but I put that to the back of my mind as my love for the sport was greater.
