Maggy Burbidge of STFX and Olivier Pouliot of Lakehead have been named the U SPORTS hockey players of the week for the period ending February 26, 2023.

Maggy Burbidge carried the STFX X-women to a commanding lead in their best-of-five AUS semifinal series against Saint Mary's. Burbidge scored a pair of hat tricks, the first on Wednesday with an assist in the 5-1 win. In Thursday’s 5-3 win, the Arts major scored one goal, and in Sunday’s 6-3 loss, she netted another three goals. The seven-goal weekend pushed the Nova Scotia native to become the country's leading scorer in the playoffs.


Olivier Pouliot, Lakehead

Hometown: Rimouski, Qué.
Year of eligibility: 1st

Olivier Pouliot led the Lakehead Thunderwolves to a three-game series win against the Toronto Varsity Blues. The Education major picked up an assist apiece for games one and two. Pouliot shone in game three and scored a hat trick, including the game-winner, and picked up an assist in the decisive game. The forward joined the Thunderwolves' elite club of hat-trick scorers as this was only the fifth playoff hat-trick accomplished in Lakehead men’s hockey history.

Next up for the Thunderwolves is a series against the Windsor Lancers starting this Wednesday.
