Women’s Hockey Player of the Week: Martina Fedel, Guelph

Martina Fedel helped lead the Gryphons to back-to-back wins against the No. 5-ranked U of T Varsity Blues on Friday and the No. 10-ranked Waterloo Warriors on Saturday. Fedel made 16 saves against the Varsity Blues to help lead the Gryphons to an all-important regulation win and three points in the OUA standings. The next day, Fedel made 34 saves between 60 minutes of regulation and 7 minutes of overtime. The two teams headed to a shootout locked at 0-0, where Fedel turned aside all three shooters she faced. The win marked the fourth consecutive win for the Gryphons and the third straight shutout for Fedel. The win also proved to be the 13th shutout victory of Fedel's career, which has seen her establish herself as one of the best goaltenders in the conference.

Men’s Hockey Player of the Week: Christian Purboo, Queen’s

  • Hometown: Oakville, Ont.

  • Program: Economics

Purboo, a third-year goalie, helped the Queen's Men's Hockey team sweep their weekend series in Ottawa, Ont. to improve their record for the season to 8-4-0. On Friday night against the Ottawa Gee-Gees, Purboo made 31 saves for a shutout to lead the Gaels to a 2-0 win. Then, on Saturday night against the Carleton Ravens, Purboo made 29 saves in a 3-2 overtime win.

Queen's will take on the RMC Paladins in a mid-week clash on Wednesday at the Kingston Memorial Centre.
