Emma Bergesen scored the golden goal for Mount Royal as the No. 8-seeded Cougars defeated the defending champion Concordia Stingers 4-3 in overtime in the gold medal game to cap off a cindarella run in the 2023 U SPORTS Women’s Hockey Championship.

The Stingers led 3-2 in the dying seconds of third period and when the Cougars got possession of the puck and Breanne Trotter scored her second goal of the game with only two seconds on the clock to force the overtime frame.

"I have no words to describe this, its one of the best feelings in the world," said Cougars goaltender Ross. "We deserve this, we've worked so hard for this all year and its so nice that all of our hard work paid off."

The gold medal was the first in MRU program history.
