Women’s Hockey Player of the Week: Katie Chomiak, Nipissing

Katie Chomiak and her teammates had two victories against the Toronto Varsity Blues over the weekend at their home arena in Nipissing.

In Saturday’s game, Chomiak tallied three goals and one assist in a 4-3 victory for her first hat trick of the season. Sunday’s game went into overtime (3-2), and Chomiak scored the second goal for her team. The third-year forward is now up 10 goals and 6 assists for the season, and the Nipissing Lakers are first place in the OUA East division.

Men’s Hockey Player of the Week: Ventsislav Shingarov, Laurier

  • Year: 1st  year
  • Program: Economics

Shingarov, Laurier men's hockey rookie goaltender, set a record on Friday night with a 66-save performance against the No. 8 Concordia Stingers for his first career OUA win. His 0.919 save percentage led his team to win 5-4. 

His efforts between the pipes secured the Laurier win and cemented his name in the program's record books, having surpassed Ryan Daniels' previous record of 55 saves set in 2011 against the Western Mustangs.
