Gabriella Durante, Calgary

Gabriella Durante is the U SPORTS women’s hockey player of the week after leading the Dinos to an upset of Saskatchewan in the Canada West quarterfinals. On Friday night, Durante made 22 saves but in a 2-1 loss to the Huskies in Game 1. On Saturday, in a must-win game, she stopped 28 shots and shut out the Huskies 2-0. In Sunday’s decider, she turned away all 31 shots she faced as the Dinos completed the upset with another 2-0 win.

The Dinos head to UBC to take on the Thunderbirds in the best-of-three Canada West semifinal. The series gets underway on Friday, with Game 2 on Saturday and Game 3, if needed, on Sunday.

Nathan Torchia, Windsor

Nathan Torchia is named the U SPORTS male hockey athlete of the week after making 91 saves over two games in a first-round sweep for Windsor. On Wednesday in Thunder Bay, he third-year goaltender made 56 saves to lead his team to a 3-2 victory in overtime. Playing on home ice Friday night, Torchia made 35 saves to help the Lancers skate away with a 7-2 victory against Lakehead, advancing them to the OUA quarter-finals against top-seeded Brock.

The Lancers will host the Badgers in Game 1 of the best-of-three series on Thursday, before heading to St. Catharines for Game 2 on Saturday and, if necessary, Game 3 on Sunday.
