UBC forward Chanreet Bassi tallied two goals to lead the Thunderbirds 4-0 over the UNB Reds in the third consolation semifinal Saturday at the 2024 GFL U SPORTS Women’s Hockey Championship presented by Connect Energy at Merlis Belsher Place in Saskatoon.

Bassi’s goals both game in the second period at 2:14 and 11:30, while UBC goalie Elise Huggins stopped 17 shots in the shutout.

UBC will now face the host Saskatchewan Huskies in the consolation final Sunday at 10 a.m. The Huskies defeated STFX 3-1 in an earlier consolation semifinal.

UBC opened the scoring at 13:06 in the first period when Joelle Fiala’s shot beat UNB netminder Kendra Woodland five-hole on a rush down the ice. The T-Birds added Bassi’s two goals in the second period.

On Bassi’s first at 2:14 in the second, her shot found a lane with an off-balance shot through a crowd in front of Woodland just 2:14 into the second frame.  Bassi tipped a Sophia Gaskell shot at 11:30 for her second.

The T-Birds added their final goal at 2:49 in the third on a shot from the point by Sierra LaPlante.

Despite the score, Woodland was the highlight in the game for the Reds making 40 saves in the loss.
