Men’s Hockey News

The undefeated Carleton Ravens are the new team to beat in U SPORTS women’s basketball, while three other schools have reclaimed No.1 rankings.

Carleton (19-0) jumped into top spot thanks to a 57-41 win against crosstown rival No.10 Ottawa (13-6) in the Capital Hoops Classic on Friday night at the Canadian Tire Centre. It’s the first No.1 ranking for the Ravens since Nov. 15, 2016, when they also swept both the men’s and women’s basketball pole positions. Carleton visits Nipissing and Laurentian this weekend.

On the ice, the Alberta Golden Bears (22-3-1) are back at No.1 in men’s hockey, while the Manitoba Bisons (20-5-1) reclaim top spot on the women’s side. The Golden Bears recorded 4-1 and 3-1 victories at home against No.5 Saskatchewan, with the Bisons beating Lethbridge 3-0 and 3-2 on the road.  Both teams wrap up the regular season this weekend as Alberta visits UBC and Manitoba hosts Calgary in weekend sets.

Finally, after falling from No.1 for the first time in nearly a year, the Trinity Western Spartans (19-1) once again lead the men’s volleyball rankings after a pair of 3-1 victories at Calgary. The Spartans play a home-and-home series with UBC this weekend

In other U SPORTS rankings, UBC Okanagan (women’s volleyball) UBC (men’s and women’s swimming), Guelph (men’s and women’s track and field), Alberta (men’s wrestling) and Brock (women’s wrestling) all remain national leaders for another week.
