  1. How did you get to your current position, and what do you enjoy most about your job?

I kind of stumbled upon my position as the University Cup Coordinator.

Over the past decade, I have had the opportunity to pursue various project management contracts within the sport, recreation and wellness field, and was in the right place at the right time when this contract came up.

What I enjoy most about my job is meeting and interacting with new people, that it’s not the same every day.  There is always something new to learn and new challenges to face!

  1. Who has had the most influence on your career?

I don’t think there is one person who has had the most influence, but more a collective of individuals who I have met and interacted with over the years, probably beginning when I was pursuing my undergraduate degree. I have had the pleasure of working with, and for, some really wonderful people, people who have pushed me and helped me realize my potential.

  1. What is your greatest sporting moment or achievement?

Probably these past two years hosting the 2017 and 2018 U SPORTS Cavendish Farms University Cup.  This was my first time not only organizing and coordinating an event of this magnitude, but also attending this national event.

  1. How would you define a UNB student-athlete?

A UNB student-athlete is a champion of academic and athletic excellence. Over the past two years working for UNB Athletics, I have come to really understand and appreciate how hard our athletes work.  Not only do they excel in their sport, but also in the classroom and in the community. Our student-athletes truly amaze me. They take on extra projects and volunteer commitments, things that I wonder how they have time to do so, but they manage it all and do so successfully.

  1. What does success look like for the UNB University athletics program?

The program aims to produce student-athletes that will strive for excellence in all aspects of their lives. UNB athletes are leaders in their sport, in the classroom, and in the community. A large percentage of our athletes are Academic All-Canadians, as well as AUS conference and national champions.

  1. What’s the biggest challenge you face in today’s sports world?

I think one of the major challenges that faces us in today’s world is competing for people’s time and attention.  It’s hard to remain visible in both traditional and social media, and staying on top of this area can be challenging with limited human resources and multiple teams/athletes to promote.

  1. Where would you like to see Canadian university sport in the next 3 to 5 years?

I would like to see the quality of athletic competitions continue to increase, as well as attendance at all events. I would also like to see Canadians support Canadian university sport as much as they do American university sport and professional leagues.

  1. What would you say to a sports fan who’s never watched a U SPORTS game/tournament/competition?

You don’t know what you’re missing!  University sport is an excellent product and you might be surprised at the caliber of athlete you’ll find in this environment.

  1. What do you enjoy doing when you’re away from work?

Spending time with my three-year-old daughter and seeing the world through her eyes.
