Men’s Hockey News

The Cape Breton Capers (men) and Ottawa Gee-Gees (women) are back on top of the national soccer rankings

The Capers (7-0-1) returned the No.1 position they last held just under a month ago, after a dominant 5-0 home win over Mount Allison in AUS action. The reigning national champion Montreal Carabins (6-1-1) slipped to No. 3 following their first loss of the season – a 3-2 defeat in RSEQ play at the hands of the UQTR Patriotes. Cape Breton heads into a Thanksgiving bye week, while Montreal hosts UQAM on Friday.

In women’s soccer, the defending national champion Gee-Gees (9-0-2) reasserted their status as the team to beat with a 1-0 win over crosstown rival Carleton. The Trinity Western Spartans (8-1-1) fell back to No. 2, following a weekend split with UNBC and then-ranked No.6 Calgary. Ottawa visits Ryerson on Sunday, while Trinity Western has a home-and-home series with Fraser Valley.

In other U SPORTS rankings, Laval (women’s rugby), Calgary (men’s cross country), Queen’s (women’s cross country), Western (football) and Alberta (men’s hockey) remain at No.1 for another week.

Top 10 rankings will begin in women’s hockey next Tuesday, Oct. 15.
