Montreal’s Audrey-Anne Veillette and UQTR’s Simon Lafrance have been named the U SPORTS hockey players of the week for the period ending January 29, 2023.

Audrey-Anne Veillette, a second-year forward, helped the Montréal Carabins to back-to-back wins this week. Veillette opened the scoring with a hat-trick and two assists in a 6-2 win against the Bishop’s Gaiters on Friday. The kinesiology student then followed that up with one goal in the Carabins’ 3-0 win on Sunday against McGill.  

Veillette and the Carabins return to action Friday when they travel to the Ottawa Gee-Gees before facing the Carleton Ravens at home on Sunday.

Simon Lafrance, a third-year forward, helped UQTR clinch the OUA East division regular-season championship with a win over the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Lafrance tallied four points in the 7-1 win against the Gee-Gees, notching two goals – an early equalizer and a goal in the second period – and two assists. He also picked up three points in UQTR’s overtime 5-4 loss to Carleton, with a goal and two assists. Lafrance is currently at the top of the OUA’s point standings with 35 points recorded so far.
