Women’s Hockey Player of the Week: Erica Fryer, Toronto

  • Hometown: Amherstburg, Ont.
  • Year: 5th
  • Program: Kinesiology

Erica Fryer had a perfect opening weekend of 2024 for the No. 8-ranked Varsity Blues, as she picked up a pair of shutout wins. On Friday, she stopped all 17 shots she faced in a 2-0 win over the York Lions. On Saturday, she followed that up with a 19-save performance in a 4-0 shutout of the Laurier Golden Hawks. Fryer and the Blues return to action this weekend as they visit Waterloo on Friday and Queen’s on Saturday.

 

Men’s Hockey Player of the Week: Thomas Couture, Acadia

  • Hometown: Lévis, Que.
  • Year of eligibility: 1st
  • Program: Business Administration 

Thomas Couture helped the Acadia Axemen get 2024 off on the right foot, as he picked up two wins last week. Last Wednesday, he made 33 saves in a 2-0 shutout of the Saint Mary’s Huskies. He followed that up with a 21-save performance in a 4-3 (SO) win over UPEI, which saw him turn aside all three of the Panthers’ shootout attempts.

 

The Axemen have a pair of home games this week, as they take on Moncton on Friday and top-ranked UNB on Saturday.
