Queen’s Gibson named U SPORTS Women’s Rugby player of the year

VICTORIA (U SPORTS) – Six different UBC student-athletes scored tries during the Thunderbirds’ 34-12 victory over the Acadia Axewomen on Nov. 4 in their consolation semifinal game at the 2022 U SPORTS Women’s Rugby Championship on Friday.
UBC’s tries were scored in the 20th, 23rd, 35th, 44th, 60th and 70th minutes by Shoshanah Seumanutafa, Rachel Smith, Mia Bullock, Savannah Bauder, Jordan McLeod, and Kristin Johnson, respectively, while Juliette Matsukubo (15th minute) and Danielle Wisen (56th minute) replied in a losing cause for Acadia.
With this win, UBC advances to play the winner of Victoria/UPEI on Sunday, Nov. 6, in the fifth-place game, while Acadia ends their season with an overall regular and post-season record of 5-3.
