Masse, Wog headline 147 U SPORTS Olympians competing at Tokyo 2020
The goal for Team Canada coming into Tokyo 2020 was to change the colour of their medal — and that’s exactly what they did.
The Canadians won gold in women’s soccer on Day 14, after the final against Sweden ended 1-1 and Canada prevailed 3-2 on penalty kicks. It’s the team’s best-ever Olympic result, following bronze medals at London 2012 and Rio 2016. Manitoba Bisons alum Desiree Scott is now a three-time Olympic medallist.
This is Canada’s 22nd medal at Tokyo 2020, matching the nation’s total from Rio 2016 and Atlanta 1996. It was also the first time that the gold-medal match in women’s soccer has been decided on penalty kicks.
