Quebec (U SPORTS) – The first-seeded UBC Thunderbirds concluded their journey at the 2022 U SPORTS Women Soccer Championship presented by Groupe Océan with only one loss in a shootout earlier this week. On Sunday morning, Danielle Steer scored the game’s only goal in the 70th minute to lead the T-Birds to a 1-0 win over the Trinity Western Spartans in the consolation final at Université Laval in Quebec City.

The play that made the difference started on a long ball from midfielder Ella Sunde that Sophie Damian headed in Steer’s run. The T-Bird player beat the two defenders nearby and shot the ball in the back of the net.

Silver medallists in 2021, the Spartans conclude this event placing sixth. The Thunderbirds lost the bronze medal game last year at the national championships.
