Trinity Western University alum Joel Waterman (Aldergrove, B.C.) has been named to Canada Men's National Team roster for the opening matches of its FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Qualifiers campaign.

The uncapped Waterman, who played his fifth and final season with the Spartans in the fall of 2018, is part of a 24-man roster that is preparing to host Bermuda on Thursday 25 March at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, FL, USA before facing Cayman Islands on Sunday 28 March at the IMG Sports Complex in Bradenton, FL, USA. The two matches will kick off the road to Qatar 2022 and mark a highly anticipated return to competitive match action for Canada Soccer's Men's National Team following an extended break due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Waterman, who plays professionally with CF Montreal (MLS) is one of seven players in Canada's squad who will be looking to make their first international "A" appearance.

Since graduating from TWU, Waterman, who was a Canada West First Team All-Star in his final year with the Spartans, played his 2019 season in the Canadian Premier League with Cavalry FC before being transferred to Montreal for the 2020 campaign.
