KAMLOOPS (U SPORTS) – The TMU Bold claimed their spot in the U SPORTS Men’s Soccer Championship consolation final after a 1-0 shootout victory over the STFX X-Men on Friday morning in Kamloops.

In a game where there was little to split the two teams, it only made sense that the shootout went all the way to the eighth round before Tristan Marshall sent in the winning kick to clinch the game for TMU.

TMU goalkeeper Ali Ghazanfari was the hero in the shootout, making a pair of saves and also scoring a marker from the spot himself.

STFX came out the better of the two teams to start the game, and only a pair of great saves from Ghazanfari stopped Samuel Barrowcliffe and Carson Ripoll from opening the scoring in the 23rd and 26th minutes, respectively.

The Bold came to life in the second half, but Samuel Diltz stood tall to the challenge as the teams ended regulation tied 0-0 with the shots 4-3 in favour of TMU.

With the game going straight to a shootout, the teams traded blows all the way to the eighth round when Ghazanfari came up with the stop on Owen Pensom, allowing Tristan Marshall to put the game away.

TMU keeps their season alive with the win as they will advance to the consolation final that takes place at 1:30 p.m. PT on Saturday in Kamloops. For the AUS silver medallist X-Men, a great season comes to an end with the loss.
