University of Toronto Varsity Blues alumna Kylie Masse was one of six swimmers nominated to Canada's Tokyo 2020 Olympic team on Friday, following the shift in both the dates and format of the upcoming Olympic Trials.The 2016 Olympic bronze medalist and two-time world champion has been nominated in both her signature 100-metre backstroke as well as the 200-metre race.

 
On the national stage, Masse earned the grand slam award for four career victories in the backstroke events and was named the U SPORTS female swimmer of the year from 2016-19. Masse's international highlights while at U of T include a bronze-medal finish in the 100 backstroke at the 2016 Olympic Games, as well as breaking the world record en-route to a gold-medal finish at the 2017 FINA world championships.

One of UBC's brightest stars in the pool will once again get the opportunity to shine on the international stage as Swimming Canada announced Markus Thormeyer as one of six athletes provisionally nominated to compete at the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

After competing as part of Canada's 4x100 freestyle relay which finished seventh at the 2016 Rio Games, Thormeyer will swim for the maple leaf in the 200 metre backstroke in Tokyo this summer.

Thormeyer set a U SPORTS record in the 200 metre backstroke at the 2020 national championship, taking gold with a time of 1:58.54, helping the UBC men's team win their fourth straight banner in the process. The Delta, B.C. native was also named U SPORTS Male Swimmer of the Year for the second consecutive time.

In addition to his growing accomplishments in the pool, Thormeyer was also recently named one of U SPORTS' Top 8 Academic All Canadians for the 2019-20 season.
