Women’s Swimmer of the Week: Alexanne Lepage, Calgary

Alexanne Lepage made her rookie Canada West championship meet a memorable one, as she brought home gold medals in all four of her events – all within 24 hours – at the 2023 CW Swimming Championships. The reigning Junior World Champion set a career personal best in the 100m breaststroke (1:06.12), 200m breaststroke (2:25.49), and 200m Individual Medley (2:12.74). She also clocked in just over four seconds ahead of her competitors to win the 400m Individual Medley (4:42.89). As a result of her success, Lepage was awarded multiple honors including Canada West Rookie and Female Swimmer of the Year.

Men’s Swimmer of the Week: Stephen Calkins, Calgary

Stephen Calkins carried the Dinos to their second consecutive Canada West championship over the weekend and picked up multiple individual gold medals. The Pan American Medalist defended his reigning title in the 100m freestyle (47.87) and 50m butterfly (23.56), in addition to winning the 50m freestyle (22.19). On Friday evening, he also broke his own conference record in the 50m butterfly during preliminaries and finals, less than two hours apart. Calkins was later recognized as Canada West Male Swimmer of the Year following his historic performances.
