Dalhousie’s Lorena Heubach and Guelph’s Mark Bujnowski are the U SPORTS track and field athletes of the week for the period ending January 29, 2023.

Year of Eligibility: 5th

Lorena Heubach won the indoor pentathlon at the New Brunswick Indoor Championship and University Invitational last weekend. She led the event from wire-to-wire, winning all five events and amassing 3,772 points. She is currently ranked second in the country and achieved automatic qualification for the U SPORTS national championship in March.

The Dalhousie Tigers are off this week but return to action on February 11 for the SMU Open, their last tuneup before the AUS Championships in four weeks.


Mark Bujnowski, Guelph

Academic program: Agriculture

Mark Bujnowski, the three-time reigning U SPORTS champion in men’s shot put, threw a new U SPORTS record of 19.47 metres at the 2023 Penn State National Open, finishing first overall and an astonishing 2.14 metres ahead of the second-place finisher, Duane Knisley of Penn State.

Mark Bujnowski and the Gryphons will be back in action on February 3 for the York Open in Toronto.
