Women's track and field athlete of the week: Sienna MacDonald, Calgary

Sienna MacDonald of the Calgary Dinos had an outstanding performance at last weekend’s Golden Bear Open in Edmonton. She racked up 4,139 points to win the pentathlon, by far the highest total in U SPORTS this season. She posted personal bests in all five events, including a time of 8.27 seconds in the 60m hurdles, which puts her first in the country. Her long jump of 6.02 metres is the third-longest in U SPORTS this season.

MacDonald will join her team back on her home track for the third and final time this season next weekend as they get set to host the annual Dinos Classic on Sunday. Events are set to get underway at 9:30 a.m. inside the Jack Simpson Gym.

Men's track and field athlete of the week: Dawson Mann, Manitoba

  • Hometown: Sanford, Man.
  • Year of Eligibility: 3rd
  • Academic Program: Management

Dawson Mann of the University of Manitoba’s Bisons had a record- breaking performance this past weekend at the Golden Bear Open. Mann’s time of 1:17.78 in the 600m broke the previous meet record by 1.44 seconds. His time sets him as the third fastest in the 600m in program history. This result gave Mann an auto qualification for an invitation to nationals.
