CALGARY – Julia Murmann finished with a game-high 18 kills to lead the Toronto Varsity Blues to a 3-1 (17-25, 25-23, 28-26) victory over the Brock Badgers in Sunday’s consolation final at the U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship from the Jack Simpson Gym.

After struggling to find their footing in the opening set, hitting just 0.115 per cent, the Blues found their rhythm in the second, winning the next three consecutive sets to take home the consolation title in this rematch of the 2022 OUA final. Toronto completely dominated the fourth, hitting a game-high 0.304 in the deciding set compared to the Badgers -0.031.

Sophia Currier was everywhere defensively for Toronto, as she led the team with 15 digs. Hope Kotun continued her strong tournament for the Blues, adding 13 kills of her own to go along with Murmann’s 18. Madison Chimienti had a strong match for the Badgers, powering down 14 kills while her teammate Emily Foest added nine of her own.

Toronto’s hit percentage was only slightly better than Brock’s throughout the match, but the Blues were much cleaner on the defensive side as their five reception errors were doubled by the Badgers who finished with 10.

With the win, Toronto finishes fifth at the championship while Brock wraps up their tournament in sixth place.
