CALGARY – Charlene Robitaille and Victoria Iannotti each finished with 19 kills to lead the McGill Martlets to a 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-19) win over the Toronto Varsity Blues Friday in a quarter-final game in the U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship from the Jack Simpson Gym.

After a slow start, McGill found its rhythm early in the second, battling for a close second-set win before powering past Toronto to advance.

Robitaille hit an impressive .391 en route to her 19 kills with just one error, also adding seven digs, six blocks and two aces. Iannotti hit .372 for her 19 kills, also adding six blocks and five digs. Julia Murmann led Toronto’s attack Friday, finishing with 21 kills to go with 14 digs, while teammate Hayley Goodwin also recorded a double-double with 47 assists and 13 digs.

After hitting just .115 in the opening set, the Martlets finished the match hitting .297 overall, while limiting the Varsity Blues to just a .233 clip.

McGill, the RSEQ champion, now advances to Saturday’s second national semifinal match against Canada West champion Trinity Western at 8 p.m. (all times Mountain). Meanwhile, Toronto will now face off against host Calgary in the second consolation game, scheduled to start at 3 p.m. Saturday.
