Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week: Briar Crerar, Guelph

  • Hometown: Pickering, Ont.
  • Year: 2nd
  • Program: Psychology 

Briar Crerar led the Guelph Gryphons to a pair of five-set wins to open the winter semester last weekend. On Friday, she scored 19.5 points – including a game-high 18 kills – and added 21 digs as Guelph came from behind to Toronto 3-2 (25-27, 25-20, 15-25, 25-21, 16-14). On Saturday, against the York Lions, Crerar again came up big with a 20-point performance on 19 kills and a service ace as the Gryphons came from two sets down to topple the Lions 3-2 (18-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-17, 15-12). She also added a team-high 17 digs.

The Gryphons head to RMC for a two-game series on Friday and Saturday.

Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week: Matthew Hamilton, Thompson Rivers

  • Hometown: Lethbridge, Alta.

  • Program: Business – Finance

In an emotional return to the court for the entire Thompson Rivers University men's volleyball team, Hamilton delivered the best performance of his university career. Hamilton tallied 33 total kills over the weekend, also adding 15 digs and five block assists during a weekend split at Winnipeg. He was unstoppable in Friday's 3-1 victory, striking for 17 kills and a .433 hitting percentage while committing just four errors. He emphatically closed out the game with two untouchable service aces, prompting a huge reaction from his teammates and the large contingent of TRU supporters in the stands. He was strong again the following day in a 3-1 defeat to the Wesmen, hitting for 16 kills, an ace, and collecting seven digs.

The WolfPack are back in action this weekend, as they host MacEwan for a two-game series on Friday and Saturday.
