Raya Surinx, Manitoba

Raya Surinx is the U SPORTS player of the week in women’s volleyball after an impressive performance in the Canada West gold medal match against UBC. With a 3-2 win over the defending national champions, the Bisons secured their first league crown since joining Canada West in 2001. In her first game back from an injury, Surinx was a difference maker in the game as she shined with 18.5 points scored from 15 kills, one ace, a solo block and three blocks assisted. She also recorded 12 digs on her way to gold.

The Bisons are now turning their attention to the U SPORTS 2024 women’s volleyball championship that will be held in Hamilton, Ont. from March 15-17. They enter the tournament as the top seed.

Jonathan Pickett, Guelph

  • Year of eligibility: 5th
  • Academic program: Sport & Event Management

Jonathan Pickett is the U SPORTS player of the week in men’s volleyball following an astonishing performance in the OUA bronze medal match. Needing a win over Brock to secure a berth at the U SPORTS national championship, Pickett shined in the matchup with 32.5 points from 30 kills, one ace and three block assists. The fifth-year outside hitter from Wiarton, Ont. also added 5 digs and one assist.

The Guelph Gryphons are headed to Kingston, Ont. for the 2024 U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship from Thursday to Sunday, where they will enter as the No. 8 seed.
