Men’s Volleyball News

For the second time in three years and fourth occasion since 2006, the McMaster Marauders will host the 2018 U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship at the Burridge Gymnasium in Hamilton, Ont., Mar. 16-18.

“The strong foundation built in 2016 will be expanded upon, to provide an even better student-athlete experience for the best that U SPORTS men's volleyball has to offer,” says Glen Grunwald, Director of Athletics & Recreation at McMaster. “We look forward to working alongside our exemplary partners in the Hamilton volleyball community to present an event that our university, the City of Hamilton and U SPORTS can be proud to call their own.”

At the 2016 championship, McMaster held their ground on home court to advance to the gold medal game, where they lost in four sets to Trinity Western, who have won back-to-back national titles and four of the past seven. Historically, Canada West has been the dominant region for men’s volleyball, with their teams having won 44 of the 51 national championships.

With the ball back in their court, McMaster will be seeking redemption this year, hoping to become the first OUA winner of the Tantramar Trophy. The trophy was donated by Mount Allison University in 1967 and is named after the famous Tantramar marshes, a large area dedicated to the birds and wildlife surrounding Sackville, N.B., near the university.
