WINNIPEG – The striking of Zachary Hollands in the fourth set proved to be the difference as the Sherbrooke Vert et Or defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues 3-1 (21-25, 25-9, 25-11, 25-18) in their quarter-final game at the 2022 U Men’s Volleyball Championship Friday night at the Investors Group Athletic Centre.

Hollands finished with 14 kills, while RSEQ Rookie of the Year Jonathan Portelance added 30 assists and seven digs to lead Sherbrooke. Toronto’s Davis Young had 28 assists and Mitchell Neuert had 11 kills in a losing cause for the Varsity Blues.

Sherbrooke recorded a .276 hitting percentage in the match, compared to Toronto’s .011.

With the win, Sherbrooke advances to play the top-seeded Trinity Western Spartans on Saturday at 8 p.m. CT (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT) in the semi-finals, while Toronto will take on the hosts Manitoba Bisons in the consolation round on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT (3:30 ET/12:30 PT).
