HAMILTON (U SPORTS) – Jonathan Portelance tallied 34 assists and six digs in the Sherbrooke Vert & Or’s dominant 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-21) win over the Alberta Golden Bears on Saturday in their semifinal match at the 2023 U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship, presented by Mikasa, at Burridge Gymnasium. Sherbrooke will aim to secure its second national title in program history on Sunday and first in 48 years.

Yoan David, a third-year opposite, recorded 18 kills on 37 attacks and tallied a team-high 12 digs in the victory. Teammate Zachary Hollands contributed 14 kills throughout the contest.

Golden Bear Jordan Canham totalled 18 kills and two service aces in the loss, while Cam Kern recorded 27 assists for Alberta in the loss.

The Vert & Or were dominant on the defence with 36 kills to the Golden Bears’ 26.

Sherbrooke has earned a berth to the gold medal game and will face the TWU Spartans, the team that beat them in last year’s national semifinal, on Sunday, March 19 at 6 p.m. ET. Alberta will meet the host McMaster Marauders in the bronze medal game with first-serve set for 3 p.m. on Sunday.
