Light Uchechukwu is the U SPORTS player of the week in women’s volleyball after two dominating performances that helped the Manitoba Bisons clinch the second place in the Canada West standings as the regular season wound down. The fourth year outside hitter started off the weekend strong with 26.5 points from 22 kills, three service aces, one solo block, and one block assist, while she added 13 digs. Uchechukwu doubled down on her performance the following day as the Bisons defeated Saskatchewan once again scoring 18 points helped by 16 kills and four block assists. She also added nine digs.

The Manitoba Bisons will be back in action on Friday In the Canada West quarterfinals as they will host the UBC Okanagan Heat in the first match of a best of three series. Games 2 and 3 (if necessary) are set for Saturday and Sunday in Winnipeg.

Gavin Moes is the U SPORTS player of the week in men’s volleyball following two solid matches in the final week of the regular season. The fourth year outside hitter had 24.5 points in the UBC Thunderbirds’ five-set loss, with 22 kills, two solo blocks and one block assist along with adding four digs. The Bow Island, Alta., product helped his team get redemption on the Brandon Bobcats the following day with a 22.5 points and 10 digs performance from 19 kills, two solo and three assisted blocks in their five-set win.

The UBC Thunderbirds are now turning their attention to the playoffs as they will host the Saskatchewan Huskies in the Canada West quarterfinals. Game 1 is set for Friday, with Games 2 and 3 (if necessary) following on Saturday and Sunday.
